I recently came across this highly original artist name Mark Jenkins. Now from first glance at the photo above, you might think it was just a highly unusual photo of someone committing a socially awkward action. However, as you keep looking at it, you realize that no person in their right mind would really ever commit such an action in such a publicly occupied setting. This is the brilliance of his art, that he places these social oddities purposely in a highly occupied place to trick the viewers mind, if even for a second into believing that what they are looking at is actually real. If you haven't noticed from my previous blogs, I am a big fan of art that interacts with its surroundings. This particular art lets the viewer take an active part in the role of the artwork instead of passively staring at paint on a canvas. Essentially, the spectators are the elements that make the art successful. Without people's tendency to point, laugh, and snap a photo at something that they wouldn't normally see every day, Mark Jenkins' artwork would be a worthless failure. It is that purposeful inclusion of audience participation by the artist that really makes me appreciate his artwork.
