I don't know how many of you are familiar with what is called tilt-shift photography, but recently it has become all the rage. It was a technique developed fro still cameras in the 1960's and has since been quite expensive and difficult to replicate until today. The outcome of this applied affect makes a visual look like a miniature and at the very least extremely cool looking. Recently this technique has been applied to video. With the same essential technique as used in still photography, the correct application of tilting the lens and shifting the camera body will replicate the same effect in moving images and thus make them appear to be miniature. One person who has been able to accurately capture this affect on video is Keith Loutit who has posted a fair amount of videos online which focus on panoramic shots of the ocean [shown in the above video] and various other events which are attended by a great amount of people. Even though tilt-shift photography on video has not lent itself toward many story line, I think that it has a tremendous potential to be effective in visualizing narratives in a revolutionary way. With the right combination of tilt-shift visuals and story elements, it could make for quite a compelling way to convey stories.
