Something I have always appreciated in the work of Olly Moss is the fact that he can take a work of art, recreate it by applying his own unique style and still have it maintain its original meaning. This is especially true in the piece above. He has taken five or six movies, and sort of redesigned them in black and white movie posters, this being the one for American History X. First of all, as a film buff I appreciate these and smile and the cleverness, but as one who has designing instincts I appreciate it much more. When I first think of black and red I think of the Bauhaus movement and how they really revolutionized the way that design was in the future and certainly today. Personally, I think Olly has been deeply inspired by the Bauhaus as a lot of his designs match the designs created by the Bauhaus 50 years ago. The only problem was that the Bauhaus was light years ahead of its time, and I think now their style is really starting to become prevalent in budding artists such as Olly Moss and other which you wouldn't have seen 20 years ago. Overall, I think if Olly was alive when the Bauhaus was swinging, he would have had no problem fitting right in. And that's something that gives me immense confidence in whatever he does.
